You didn’t think Shrek 5 was going to forget about the brogres, did you? Skyler Gisondo and Marcello Hernández will be playing Farkle and Fergus, Shrek and Princess Fiona’s sons and brothers/triplets to Felicia, voiced by Zendaya. DreamWorks announced the casting during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade alongisde a cheeky video shared on Shrek’s Instagram page, featuring playful banter where Hernández went a little too method to prepare for the role. “I might’ve gone a bit overboard,” Hernández quipped before revealing he’s painted fully green, Elphaba style. If he’s still in New York for the holidays, maybe Wicked on Broadway needs an understudy — Domingo has the range, darling!
Both of the brogres have plenty of experience playing sons on screen. Gisondo is already prepped by playing Ben Stiller’s kid, Henry Focker, in the upcoming sequel, Focker in Law, and Hernández has played Pedro Pascal’s son, who keeps bringing home hipster girlfriends on SNL. While Gisondo has been voicing talking creatures since he was a kid with the Air Bud puppy spin-offs, this is Hernández’s second voice role after the Angry Birds movie coming next year. But playing different eccentric characters on SNL every week is basically the training ground for voice acting. Directed by Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn, Shrek 5 comes out June 30, 2027, during Fourth of July weekend, giving Hernández a few more colors to work with for his body paint.
