Recession indicator? They’re making Sharknado movies again. Variety is reporting that The Asylum is up to their old tricks again and cranking out yet another Sharknado. This time, the series is getting the legasequel/prequel/reboot treatment with Sharknado Origins.
Anthony Ferrante, who directed all previous ’Nados, will be returning to the franchise. But stars Ian Ziering and Tara Reid will not. Sharknado Origins will tell the story of teen Fin and April (yes, Ziering’s character is named Fin) as they meet one summer at the beach. Their love blossoms juts as the first Sharknado comes out of the ocean. You may be asking yourself “But did Fin and April act like people who’d been in a Sharknado before in Sharknado 1?” And the answer to that question would be “No.” But if you’re looking for story consistency in the Sharknado movies, we suggest you seek counseling instead. Production on Sharknado Origins begins later this year, with a potential release in summer 2026.
