Superman, Supergirl… Hey, what about the rest of the supers who aren’t from Krypton? What’s up with them? Don’t worry, James Gunn is here with some answers as he and Peter Safran’s DC Universe is fully underway. This time, we have some confirmation about what’s going on with Wonder Woman.
Didn’t we just get a Wonder Woman movie?
You’re not not wrong. The last Wonder Woman-centered movie came out in 2020 during COVID— Wonder Woman 1984, directed by Patty Jenkins — so it might be why the memory of Diana Prince feels like a blur. But if somehow a WW movie feels sooner than that, it’s because you must’ve asked Max Lord to give you the stone. What happened to it? During the transition from the Snyder-verse to the Gunn/Safran-verse in 2022, Patty Jenkins/Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 3 was left in a pocket universe, without a chance to rejoin the new DC iteration.
Who’s involved behind the scenes?
Supergirl and Teen Titans writer Ana Nogueira will write the script, The Wrap first reported, with James Gunn confirming soon after. There’s no release date right now, as the movie’s still being written, but if you want a taste of Nogueira’s work, at least Supergirl is coming next summer.

What has James Gunn teased so far?
He loves to post little tid-bits about his upcoming films and he shared that while WW isn’t being “fast-tracked,” it is a priority for DC Studios. Gunn wrote on Threads, “Nothing is going to be shot unless we’re as sure as we can be that the script is good.” He also shot down any and all rumors that they are currently casting Wonder Woman. Fans thought that they were considering Adria Arjona for the role, but he confirmed that he’s been friends with her for several years after starring in one of his movies: I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her.” He denied that they were even casting for the role at the moment, as well as any Supergirl rumors: “And I’d never in a million years look for a major role based on whether they did TV, films, or whatever. It’s all about the casting. I didn’t cast Milly because of her past, but because she was the best one for the role. (But we’re also not casting WW, nor even discussing it, until a script is finished).”
