Taylor Swift wants you throwing ass during this new era. While discussing The Life of a Showgirl, f.k.a. TS12, on her boyfriend’s New Heights podcast, Swift said the vibe of the album was energetic, showbiz, glamour. Swift recorded the album on her off days during the Eras Tour, jetting back and forth to Sweden between shows. Travis Kelce called it “12 bangers,” and a big mood shift from TTPD. “You are going to move,” he said to his brother Jason. “It’s going to make you dance.”
“This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant,” Swift said. “And one of the things about this record is like, it’s a record I made with my mentor, Max Martin and Shellback.”
Swift said her goals for this album was to stay focused and on-theme: how it felt to be doing The Eras Tour, behind the curtain. “My main goals were melodies that were so infectious that you’re almost angry at it,” she said. “And lyrics that are just as vivid, but crisp and focused and completely intentional.” Even the album art is on-theme; it’s about what it feels like to come offstage after a night on The Eras Tour. “My day ends with me in a bathtub,” she said. “I wanted to sort of like glamorize all the different aspects of how that tour felt. And that’s how that felt to like be at the end of the night when all this has gone down.”
