After nearly ten years of sobriety, Natasha Lyonne shared on Friday night that she relapsed. In a series of X posts, the Poker Face actress wrote, “Took my relapse public more to come.” She then followed that message up several hours later with a more detailed account of her ongoing journey with alcohol and drug addiction. “Recovery is a lifelong process. Anyone out there struggling, remember you’re not alone,” she wrote. “Grateful for love & smart feet. Gonna do it for baby Bambo. 🎥❤️🥊”
“Bambo” is a nickname for hockey player Sophie Braverman, the woman at the center of Lyonne’s upcoming project, which she wrote and is set to direct later this year. “Stay honest, folks. Sick as our secrets. If no one told ya today, I love you,” Lyonne continued. “No matter how far down the scales we have gone, we will see how our experience may help another. Keep going, kiddos. Don’t quit before the miracle. Wallpaper your mind with love. Rest is all noise & baloney.”

Lyonne, who started her acting career in 1986 at the age of 6, struggled publicly with addiction in the early 2000s. After she was evicted by her landlord, she entered court-appointed rehab in 2006, she later told Entertainment Weekly. Years after completing treatment, Lyonne told The Guardian in a 2017 interview that she had “no problem” discussing her history with addiction. “I’ve sort of said my piece on the subject,” she added. “But the truth is, at the back of that addiction are feelings that so many of us have, that don’t go away.”
The Cut has reached out to Lyonne’s representatives for comment and will update this post if we hear back.
