We had warning for the New Heights appearance. We had countdowns for the vinyl variants. Taylor Swift loves to tease major announcements with clues and numbers and colors, but it’s safe to say that we had no such warning for her August 26 post announcing that she and football player-slash-podcaster Travis Kelce are engaged. The Life of a Showgirl singer shared a carousel of photos to Instagram with a very earnest Swiftian caption: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” Most of us are their contemporaries, and not their students, but as she once told the graduating class of NYU, “Learn to live alongside cringe.”

The two have been together since 2023, when Kelce called out Swift on his podcast for not hanging out with him after her Eras Tour show in Kansas City, which is the thing that really, finally made the queen of heartbreak songs fall in love for real and for good. This is probably not the quickest turnaround from “first-time podcast guest” to fiancée but it certainly seems that way.
