No more Mr. Nice Na’vi. The first official trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash is here, and it upends harmful stereotypes about the blue alien people of the planet Pandora, showing that not all Na’vi are hippie-dippie peaceniks; Na’vi can be assholes too. The third movie in James Cameron’s Avatar series picks up not long after where we left off in Avatar: The Way of Water, with Jake Sully (Sam Waterston) and his lovely wife, Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), still living with the swamp folk, including Metkayina second-in-command Ronal (Kate Winslet). Son Lo’ak (Britain Dalton) is still an angsty teen, foster son Spider (Jack Champion) is still scampering around in white-boy locs. But now their lives are disrupted by a new clan of Na’vi: the warlike, scary Mangkwan.

These emaciated, ashy pyromaniacs are led by Varang (Oona Chaplin), giving Queen of the Damned body tea in her bloodred makeup and statement headpiece. The trailer teases Varang and her gang allying themselves with the evil human paramilitary forces on Pandora and shows glimpses of some visually arresting battle scenes including other creatures like the Tulkun and Banshees. Does this spell the end of Pandora as we know it? Or will the Sully family and their Tulkun friends help the ash people put down their flamethrowers and find Eywa (and Aquaphor)? You’ll be able to say “I see you” to Avatar: Fire and Ash in theaters December 19.
