Hey, hey, what can we do besides a preorder? Robert Plant has announced a new album, Saving Grace, which he describes as a “song book of the lost and found.” The album’s conceit came from Plant wandering around in a place he calls “the Shire” during the pandemic lockdown — the chap famously knows a thing or two about Tolkien — and it features a new band of musicians supporting him. “We laugh a lot, really. I think that suits me. I like laughing,” Plant said in a statement. “You know, I can’t find any reason to be too serious about anything. I’m not jaded.” Unlike his previous Americana-centered covers record with Alison Krauss from 2021, Saving Grace, out on September 26, will find Plant and his band interpreting century-old music in a very English way. The track list includes songs from Memphis Minnie, Moby Grape’s Bob Mosley, and Blind Willie Johnson, all perfected for a misty morning walk in the Cotswolds. (Listen to the first track here.) “These are sweet people,” Plant added of his band, “and they are playing out all the stuff that they could never get out before.” Frodo would definitely get a big kick out of it.
