“Kim Kardashian Is a Bratz Villain” sounds like a 2012 headline on Joan of Snark. But it’s actually a value judgement-less piece of entertainment news. All’s Fair’s Kardashian is set to star in the upcoming Bratz movie from Amazon MGM. The toys-into-movies boom sparked by Barbie continues chugging along, with the Mattel rival being the latest project in the works. It joins John Cena’s Matchbox Cars movie, the Polly Pocket movie no longer being written by Lena Dunham, and Ayo Edebiri’s Barney movie. Okay, Barney isn’t techincally a toy-first IP, but he’s owned by Mattel and has lots of toys, so it should count.
According to Variety, the new Bratz movie (not to be confused with 2007’s Bratz) will be written by Charlie Polinger and Lucy McKendrick. The pair are currently working on A24’s The Masque of the Red Death starring Mikey Madison. So, yeah, same energy as Bratz. Totally.
