Howdy, neighbor. Friendship, the A24 ultra-tense cringe comedy, is making new buds in the box office top 10 in its second week of release. The film came in at number 7 at $1.4 million, just behind The Weeknd’s “movie,” Hurry Up Tomorrow with $3.3 million. After Friendship is indie horror flick Clown in a Cornfield with $1.3 mil.
Speaking of spooky, Final Destination: Bloodlines topped the box office with $51 million domestic. The film added to that internationally with anotther $51 mil, making for $102 million globally in its first week of release. The relaunch of the Rube Goldbergian horror series was also one of the last films for the late Tony Todd. Nice to see the king of horror going out on top.
Coming in at number 2 this weekend is Thunderbolts* in its third week of release with $16.5 million. Unlike many recent Marvel movies, the New Avengers soft launch has been holding its own week after week at the B.O. It stayed at number 1 last week, and only dropped to number 2 this week. At number 3 is is Sinners with $15.4 million, then A Minecraft Movie in its seventh week of release. The Accountant 2 completes the top 5 with $4.9 mil to declare with the Amazon MGM accountants.
