Leave it to Desi to take a red carpet question way too seriously. A BBC reporter asked the members of the Fantastic Four who would be in their personal Fantastic Four. Pedro Pascal, Joe Quinn, and Vanessa Kirby all gave the canned answer of “this cast ❤️” or “my family ❤️,” but Ebon Moss-Bachrach went in a different direction. “John Coltrane, Faye Dunaway, Oliver Sachs, and Ursula [K.] Le Guin,” he said. See, that’s some real personal info right there.
Now we can look at this list two ways. 1) This is basically a list of four heroes to Moss-Bachrach, the same answer he’d give if he was asked “Who’s in your coven?” or “Who would you sit with at lunch?” or, 2) He wants to give these four people the superpowers of the Marvel Fantastic Four. If that’s the case, Sachs should get The Thing’s powers because as a psychologist he’d be the most resilient about that power set’s drawbacks. Dunaway should get stretch powers, because Hollywood is cruel about women aging and Mr. Fantastic’s power can be used like Botox (see also: Elasti-Woman on Doom Patrol). Coltrane should get the Invisible Woman’s powers because I’m curious how forcefields could affect acoustics in performance and recording. And Le Guin can flame on because Dragons. Who is in your Fantastic Four, and which jazz legend should would you gift invisibility powers to? Sound off in the comments.
