Wicked: For Good is finally coming out in theaters on November 21, introducing the non-theatergoing world to the musical’s second act. Jon M. Chu’s sequel is holding space for the highest-grossing opening weekend of any movie this year — in spite of a lack of press tour memes. The first film opened a year ago, over Thanksgiving, to record-breaking box-office numbers. Now we’re a clock tick away from knowing just how well Wicked: For Good can do. Below, all the box-office milestones it could reach in just its opening weekend.
Wicked: For Good is good
No matter what, if Wicked: For Good passes $115 million, it will have made more domestically during opening weekend than its predecessor. By default, that would also make it the best opening ever for a stage-to-screen musical, a record Wicked took from Mamma Mia! This is nowhere near the ceiling, with all the goodwill toward the first film in the series and stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Wicked: For Good is popular
Universal predicts the film will earn the studio $125 million opening weekend. If For Good beats that, Universal can say the film made more than expected, shattered a box-office musical record, and is a total success. This is totally achievable.

But sources predicted to Deadline that Wicked: For Good will actually make around $150 million its opening weekend. Should the film surpass that number, everybody — not just Universal — will have to admit that For Good defied gravity.
Wicked: For Good is wicked popular
The crowning achievement of Glinda and Elphaba’s lives may come if Wicked: For Good makes over $162 million at the box office. That would make it the best opening-weekend box office of the year, beating A Minecraft Movie. And as a little bonus, it would give For Good the best opening-weekend box office for a non-superhero movie so far this decade, per Box Office Mojo, in front of both Minecraft and Barbie, which both made $162 million. Something wicked awesome this way comes.
