If you’re going to dive headfirst into a reunion with two beloved actors, why not just go all in? Thank God, Katie Holmes gets it. She’s reuniting with her Dawson’s Creek co-star Joshua Jackson in a new film trilogy that’s all her own. Holmes is writing, directing, and starring in Happy Hours, a film series following two people (Holmes and Jackson) who are “navigating their relationship within the challenges of careers and family responsibilities and the pursuit of love, despite life’s inevitable obstacles,” per Deadline. Other stars include Mary-Louise Parker, Constance Wu, Joe Tippett, John McGinty, Donald Webber Jr., Nathan Darrow, Johnna Dias-Watson, and Jack Martin. Production for the first film started this summer, with the other two movies following soon after — hopefully, no more waiting around for years to find out what’s going to happen between the two. We’re in a drought after the assumed end of Doctor Odyssey.
Holmes is no stranger to directing. She directed an episode of The Kennedys: After Camelot and three featured films so far: All We Had (2016), Alone Together (2022), and Rare Objects (2023). She’s also no stranger to Jackson, having filmed six seasons of Dawson’s Creek in the early 2000s—the last time we saw them, they were back together and living in New York. Jackson and Holmes are the perfect example of a good reunion: the nostalgia of their original show, without the stress of living up to the pressure of 20+ years of anticipation.
