Lily James is stepping into Sylvester Stallone’s climbing shoes. James will star alongside Pierce Brosnan in a remake of 1993’s Cliffhanger. So not only is this a remake of Cliffhanger, it’s a Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again reunion. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brosnan will play a father of two daughters who runs a chalet in the Italian Dolomites. When he and his youngest daughter are kidnapped, it’s up to the eldest (James) to overcome her past mountaineering trauma and save her family. Because it’s always up to the eldest daughter, isn’t it?
The Cliffhanger remake sale came out of the Toronto International Film Festival. It’s still in postproduction. Carry-On’s Jaume Collet-Serra is directing from a script by A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night’s Ana Lily Amirpour with Sascha Penn, Mark Bianculli, and Melanie Toast. It’s set for release sometime in 2026.
