Jordon Hudson, the 24-year-old girlfriend of former Patriots coach Bill Belichick and daughter of a Maine fisherman, is wading into politics on Instagram. In a recent post, she wrote a plea to President Donald Trump to bring back the Maine Sea Grant, a $4.5 million federal program that supported marine research, sustainability, and economic growth in the state and was recently cut by the administration.
“I am Jordon and I speak for the fishermen,” she began her caption, drawing inspiration from Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax. “I speak for the fishermen and for the fishermen who have no voice.” The fishermen she’s speaking of were in attendance at the 50th Maine Fishermen’s Forum in Rockport last weekend when the news was announced. Hudson was there too and wrote that “the forum floors filled with tears and fears as if everyone were drowning, and we were.” Along with the plea, she posted three black-and-white glamour headshots, all with the same caption: “But do you love the fishermen??? @potus.”
While it feels random, the issue hits close to home for Belichick’s girlfriend. According to the post, her father was a ninth-generation fisherman who was forced out of the industry because of “reckless regulatory decisions by government officials.” I’m intrigued to see if her headshots change their minds.
