Now we know for sure: JoJo Siwa does not find jokes about her sexuality funny. The 22-year-old, who has previously publicly identified as lesbian, made headlines after confirming she was dating her Celebrity Big Brother U.K. co-star Chris Hughes. (She has since embraced the term queer.) Whomever Siwa wants to date is her business, but as expected, people had a lot to say about her sudden embrace of a man. Of those questioning the former Nickelodeon star’s change of heart was, notably, Miley Cyrus, who joked in a video played at D.C.’s WorldPride that Siwa needed to get “back out of” the closet. But in an Instagram post Thursday, Siwa said she didn’t exactly find Cyrus’s commentary amusing.

“I was happy at my 5th birthday having a Miley themed party, and I’m still happy now at 22,” she wrote, captioning a carousel of photos showcasing her long-running Miley fandom. “If you know me, you know that miley is my day 1, grew up beyond inspired by her from 2 years old on.”

“But I’ve started to come to some thoughts … I don’t believe what Miley said at world pride was ill intended, honestly I think it was meant to be a joke, but just not a very good one haha,” she went on. “Not what the world, or myself needs to hear any day of the week.”
Siwa said that she “lightheartedly” messaged Cyrus, who identifies as pansexual, about the video, adding that the 32-year-old replied, “All love. Always. ❤️❤️❤️.” But, Siwa went on, “the most beautiful thing I’ve learned in the last 5 years is that love is a gorgeous rainbow.”
“Don’t question yourself, don’t second guess yourself, just love,” she concluded. “People judge no matter what, and it can be very hard, especially when it comes from someone you love and look up to … but if you feel happy and content with yourself, that’s most important.”
