Sabrina Carpenter knows how to cut a man down to size with just a simple lyric … and we do mean “simple.” She doesn’t mention her Saltburn-starring ex, Barry Keoghan, by name in her new song, “Manchild,” but no one online is even suggesting other options. “Manchild,” released June 5, is a catchy himbo takedown with clever lyrics they definitely wouldn’t understand. “Why so sexy if so dumb?” she innocently asks. “And how survive the earth so long?” Oof, she even had to speak his language: caveman. In the song’s music video, Carpenter is a hitchhiking hillbilly, securing rides from dumb men galore. One washes his face with gasoline; another has her in a shopping-cart sidecar attached to his motorcycle. The vintage Southwestern setting is perfectly in line with her Short n’ Sweet–era videos like “Please Please Please,” which starred her then-boyfriend Keoghan as the bad boy who mob-wife Carpenter begs to act right.

At the time, a source said they were both just too “career focused” for a relationship. Keoghan’s next career-focused move will be riding a yellow submarine — maybe the one vehicle Carpenter doesn’t get on in the music video — as Ringo in Sam Mendes’s upcoming Beatles biopic.
“Thank you always and forever for listening,” Carpenter shared on the song’s release. “And thank you men for testing me!!” Well, it’s not like this guy is passing any tests on his own …
