It was Take Your Mother to Work Day at the Marty Supreme New York City premiere. Star Timothée Chalamet brought his mother, Nicole Flender. Both were garbed in the film’s signature hue of orange. Apple Martin borrowed her mom Gwyneth Paltrow’s Calvin Klein gown to attend the premiere. It was the same dress Paltrow had worn to the Emma premiere in 1996. And Josh Safdie hung out with his muse, Julia Fox, who is literally and colloquially mother.
The New York premiere of Marty Supreme was about as New York as it could get, too. The even was held at Regal Times Square, with the red carpet giving TRL levels of screaming fans. The afterparty, held at The National Arts Club, had more reasons to love New York. Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani chatted up the Nanny Fran Drescher and The Nanny guest star Richard Kind (season 2, episode 2, “The Playwright”). Meanwhile the Shark Tank squad fêted Kevin O’Leary next to the party’s catering centerpiece: a big ol’ roast pig. In its mouth was an orange instead of an apple, because what is this campaign if not a salute to branding and color stories?

Marty Supreme is a movie about a charismatic flim-flam man, and so its press tour has been full of flim and also flam. There was the blimp, the fake Zoom meeting, merch drops that hinted at Chalamet’s relationship status. Gwyneth Paltrow wore a color, fer chrissakes, donning orange for her appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. This premiere was the capper on the proceedings, as the film hits wide release Christmas Day.
Chalamet has been hitting that “Dream Big” tagline in the press tour. For example, he said Susan Boyle was one of his biggest U.K. heroes. “She dreamed bigger than all of us,” he told the BBC, of her 2009 Britain’s Got Talent performance of “I Dreamed A Dream.” But did she get the tracksuit?
