Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson were photographed on the streets of New York on Monday, which caused a brief involuntary work stoppage for all older millennials as they tried to understand what was going on.
Could it be … a Dawson’s Creek reunion? Holmes and Jackson were both wearing outfits that you could see the 40-something versions of their characters wearing. Joey in an oversize button-up and slacks, Pacey in jeans and an Army-green shacket. It made sense. Then came the creeping dread that this could be the worst kind of reunion: a commercial meant to tug at the heartstrings of fans who felt like Joey and Dawson would never really work out and then sell them laundry detergent.
Luckily, this was all quickly cleared up. Holmes and Jackson are in fact reuniting to film something, but it’s unrelated to their shared history on a teen soap. Shortly after the photos were released, Deadline announced that the pair were co-starring in Happy Hours, a film trilogy written, directed, and starring Holmes. (In case you don’t keep up, Holmes caught the indie-film bug and in recent years has been writing and directing her own work.)

According to Deadline, Happy Hours is “a character-driven dramedy that explores the emotional journey of young loves who reconnect as adults, with the connective thread of shared joys, loss, and hope.” So, if you squint, it kind of is a Dawson’s Creek reunion. Mary-Louise Parker and Constance Wu are also in the cast, but we are patiently waiting to see if fellow New Yorker Michelle Williams drops in for a day. In the meantime, it’s time to listen to some Paula Cole.
