Are studio comedies so back? It’s a distinct possibility! The Naked Gun debuted at number 3 at the box office this weekend, in line with projections. It made $17 million domestically, with another $11 internationally, for a $28.5 million global total. If the Liam Neeson/Pamela Anderson possibly maybe relationship is for PR, it’s working.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps stayed at number 1 this week at the box office with $40 million, a 66% drop from its first weekend. That doesn’t bode great for this new phase of Marvel, but it’s still a less precipitous drop-off than movies like The Marvels (78%), Captain America: Brave New World (68%), or Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (69%).
At number 2 at the box office was The Bad Guys 2, debuting with $22.8 domestically. That’s around what the OG Bad Guys made its first weekend, so Sam Rockwell has reason to do another one of his little dances. Rounding out the top 5 were Superman at number 4 and Jurassic World Rebirth at number 5. So everything in the top 5 is either a reboot, a sequel, or the sequel to a reboot. But hey, at least Liam and Pam are cute, right?
