Hello? Black Phone 2 called and they wanted to let you know that it is the No. 1 movie at the box office this weekend. The sequel horror film from Blumhouse Productions earned $26.5 million during its opening weekend, dethroning Tron: Ares, which premiered last weekend, and already outperformed Blumhouse’s last theatrical release M3GAN 2.0’s entire box office run. The people yearn for the phone. Compared to the franchise’s first film, BP2 had already outperformed the original 2021 film’s opening weekend by $3 million. However, if this film is anything like its predecessor, its box office will hopefully grow as word of mouth spreads — by the end of Black Phone 1’s domestic run, it earned $90 million total.
Blumhouse has two more releases coming out later this year to keep the momentum going. No Me Sigas, the production company’s first original Spanish-language film, premieres in Mexico later this month; there’s no current US release date for this film. Then, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 returns this December, another sequel that will surely surpass the original at the box office because it won’t have the same day release on streaming. And probably because it will have some sort of schnanaginans for its theater-going experience.
