4 New Movies Worth Renting Right Now

by thenowvibe_admin

As people get Halloween decorations up and plan their horror-movie marathons, they might want to watch a new movie, fresh out of the theaters. We’re here to guide the way with four films that are probably still playing in a theater near you but are now available on premium video on demand too.

The Conjuring: Last Rites

Michael Chaves, 135 minutes

The film that reportedly represents the final saga of Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) ended up being one of the biggest movies of the year, making almost half a billion dollars worldwide after its September release, more than any other in this series (despite the worst reviews). Based on the Smurl haunting in the ’70s and ’80s, the success of Last Rites just proves how much people still love this franchise.

Freakier Friday

Nisha Ganatra, 111 minutes

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reunited 22 years after their remake of Freaky Friday for a long-waited sequel that ups the body-swapping high jinks. It’s almost hard to keep track of who’s possessing how, as Curtis’s Tess and Lohan’s Anna swap places with Anna’s daughter (Julia Butters) and soon-to-be stepdaughter (Sophia Hammons). It’s chaotic in a fun and silly way that should work for people who still love either of the previous versions of this fairy tale.

HIM

Justin Tipping, 96 minutes

We don’t usually highlight complete bombs in this feature, but this movie came and went so quickly from theaters that maybe you meant to see it and just didn’t catch it in time. Produced by Jordan Peele, HIM is the story of a football player who trains to become the next MVP of the league, learning from a mysterious vet played by Damon Wayans. Critics savaged the movie, and it didn’t make a dent at the box office, but it is still spooky and football season, so it might be worth a look.

The Long Walk

Francis Lawrence, 108 minutes

The 1979 Richard Bachman (a.k.a. Stephen King) novel The Long Walk has been trying to get to the big screen for decades, but it may have been worth the wait. Critics admired and audiences showed up for this story of a televised competition in which young men have to walk at a pace of three miles an hour or they will be killed. The last boy standing wins. Harrowing and timely, it’s one of the best genre flicks of the year.
