Scheherazade? More like Schehera-Zaddy. It’s time for folklore to get hot again with the queer feminist film 100 Nights of Hero. Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Isabel Greenberg, the upcoming adaptation follows a young bride named Cherry (scream queen Maika Monroe), whose husband (Amir El-Masry) deserts her in the care of the sexy Manfred (Nicholas Galitzine) and her maid, Hero (Emma Corrin). Unbeknownst to Cherry, her husband has bet Manfred that if he can seduce his wife in 100 nights, then he will give Manfred the entire estate. To keep her on track, Hero tells Cherry stories each night, loosely adapting the framework of the classic collection of Arabic folktales One Thousand and One Nights. “Anytime that you need rescuing, I’ll tell a story,” Hero promises in the exclusive trailer. Along with its dreamy main cast, the trailer offers glimpses at Richard E. Grant as local deity Birdman, Felicity Jones as Moon/the Narrator, and Charli XCX as Rosa, a character in Hero’s tales.

The trailer’s sexiness comes from competition. Both Hero and Manfred want Cherry’s attention, and they’re constantly one-upping each other in swoon-worthy ways. “There you are,” Manfred says to Cherry. “I hoped we could have a drink.” But it’s Hero who responds, “I’d love a drink.” Then, when Manfred counters that there are “only two glasses,” Hero insists, “I can use the flask.”
100 Nights of Hero was written and directed by Julia Jackman, who helmed the musical comedy Bonus Track, based on a story by Josh O’Connor, in 2024. The film will open in theaters December 5. See you at bedtime.
