Lindsay Lohan’s performance as Anna Coleman in the 2003 Freaky Friday truly changed the DNA of young women everywhere— okay, maybe it was just me, but I would like to think other young ladies were begging their parents for an electric guitar after seeing Anna (and Tess) shred on stage. Alongside Jamie Lee Curtis, Lohan returns to her old body as Anna in Freakier Friday— well a body that will now be swapped with her on-screen daughter Harper, as Anna prepares for her own wedding to Manny Jacinto. Curtis gets her own body swap as well with Anna’s soon-to-be stepdaughter, Lily, who’s seemingly not getting along with Harper. Freakier Friday comes out on August 8 and in the mean time, here’s everything Lindsay Lohan has teased about the upcoming sequel.
Pink Slip is reunited!
In the first film, Lohan sings and plays guitar for her character Anna Coleman’s band Pink Slip, and in her cover story with Elle, she confirms she’ll be rocking on stage again and she feels like instead of channeling her own music career, she’s channeling her character’s. “In this movie, I was singing it as [my character] Anna, whereas before felt more like Lindsay singing,” Lohan explained. “The whole band came back. And it’s so funny, because Christina Vidal [who plays Maddie] had just had a baby, and we were like, ‘How weird is this? Are we still cool?’”

Anna’s daughter is trying to set her up with her ex
Anna’s daughter, Harper, who is body-swapped with Anna, tries to get her to flirt with her ex, played by Chad Michael Murray, who now owns a record store. Lohan improvised many of the hilarious quirks in the moment, despite only having simple instructions on the page. “None of that was there,” Lohan told EW. “I almost fell off a few times. I think Chad’s reactions were real.”
Freakier Friday is “easy going”
Lohan felt right at home when making the sequel. She explained to Elle, “It’s easygoing. I feel like everything felt at ease when we were making it, and I feel that’s the best way to describe how I felt when I watched it. It felt easy and fun, and fresh at the same time. There’s not a lot bringing me to the movie theaters personally right now. [Freakier Friday] is a feel-good movie, which is what I want to give people. And it’s fun. When I saw the second cut, I wanted to get up and dance at the end. I was like, ‘Oh, this is cool. I like this song. I want people to do that.’”
The film is an “homage” to Los Angeles
Freakier Friday was filmed in the Malibu, Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles, which was affected by the wildfires earlier this year. “The film is such an homage to California after the fires, because we shot a lot in the Palisades and in Malibu,” Lohan explained. “Even the house—the original Freaky Friday house—unfortunately, is gone. So I think it’ll be a really nice love letter. “
