New York City, we are in a crisis! The evening of Monday, July 14, saw historic flash floods, the second-largest recorded amount of hourly rainfall in the city’s history. TikToks showed torrents gushing into subway cars and whirlpools forming in the street. It looked like something out of a disaster movie, and it was especially jarring to see one of the city’s most beloved multiplexes getting absolutely pummeled by the storm. Evacuated moviegoers posted videos of water exploding from the ceiling into the lower level of the AMC Lincoln Square, and today, a spokesperson for the theater chain said in a statement that the flooding was due to a storm-damaged “roof pipe” and that “impacted auditoriums and other affected areas of the theatre will remain closed as remediation work is underway.”
