Ye f.k.a. Yeezy f.k.a. Kanye West is changing his name once again. According to new documents filed by his business manager Hussain Lalani (obtained by Page Six), he’s going by Ye Ye now. Previous business docs were filed under Ye West, but now Yeezy Apparel, Yeezy Record Label, LLC and Getting Out Our Dreams Inc. are all owned by Ye Ye.
Ye started going by that mononym in 2018, with the album of the same name. “the being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE,” he wrote on Twitter. He’s been more proactive about people using that name for him of late. Ye reportedly “stomped off like a big baby” when he was called Kanye West during an interview with Piers Morgan in May. Ye also said on June 1 that he was going to stop using the @kanyewest Twitter handle. Then on June 5, he tweeted about the Trump/Elon breakup drama.

It’s unclear whether Ye Ye is supposed to be the full name, or if he’s simply replacing the “West” with a second Ye. It’s also unclear whether he’s aware yé-yé is a form of French pop music. Will Ye investigate his namesake’s genre? Too soon to tell. Vulture recommends starting with Françoise Hardy, Gillian Hills, and France Gall. We’ve heard a French person describe Gall’s “Il jouait du piano debout” as the “Mr. Brightside” of France, so that’s something to look into.
