In 2024, Jane’s Addiction broke up live on stage. Perry Farrell punched Dave Navarro in the middle of a song, effectively ending the band in the middle of their reunion tour. Now Navarro, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins are suing Farrell for $10 million. And Farrell is suing them right back.
On Wednesday, Rolling Stone broke the news of the Navarro/Avery/Perkins suit. They claim Farrell’s action resulted in the cancelation of the reunion tour and total dissolution of the band. They’re accusing Farrell of assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract. “The Band can no longer function as a result of the Defendant’s conduct, including his sudden, violent outbursts and demonstrated inability to serve as the Band’s frontman and vocalist,” the complaint read.
Shortly thereafter, Farrell filed a legal complaint against the three. It is not a countersuit, but rather an allegation of a “years-long campaign of bullying and harassment aimed at undermining him,” per Variety. “As a founding member and creative force behind Jane’s Addiction, Perry Farrell has always prioritized the band’s legacy and its supporters, which is why the events of September 13th, 2024 in Boston and the resulting fallout was so devastating,” Perry said in a statement. “Without warning or consultation and using Perry as a scapegoat, Dave Navarro and the other band members took it upon themselves to abruptly cancel the remaining tour dates—violating contracts and disregarding all professional obligations.”

“The timing of this baseless lawsuit is no coincidence — it was filed only after they caught wind of legal action coming from our side,” Farrell’s attorney told Rolling Stone. “It’s a transparent attempt to control the narrative and present themselves as the so-called ‘good guys.’” Farrell’s complaint also says he would have continued the reunion tour if given the opportunity to weigh in on the decision. But canceling a tour after one band member attacks another? It’s not exactly shocking.
