Beach Read Book Club
Brought to you by
This year’s Beach Read Book Club is presented by Madewell.
Made for Summer. Meant for the Beach.
Given the forecast in New York this week, it’s safe to say that summer has finally arrived, and with it the occasion to read a book on the beach or from the safety of an air-conditioned spot of your choice. Our pop-up newsletter Beach Read Book Club is officially back to help you enjoy the sweaty season.
This time, we’re discussing Rob Franklin’s debut novel, Great Black Hope, which opens with the arrest of a young queer Black New Yorker for possession of .7 grams of cocaine while he’s out partying in the Hamptons. Upon his return to the city, he has to lawyer up while processing the recent death of his best friend, a party girl and socialite, from what seems to be an overdose.
