The Life of a Deposed Girl

by thenowvibe_admin

Eighteen to 24 months from now, there may well be a Taylor Swift song called “Order in the Court” that both obliquely and witheringly refers to the months of the singer’s life that she fought against participating in the ongoing legal drama between It Ends With Us director and star Justin Baldoni and her (perhaps former?) friend Blake Lively. Until then, however, we have to go off what the news tells us, which is that Baldoni’s team has officially requested Swift be deposed ahead of the March 2026 trial in which she will be asked about “any discussions she had with Lively about conditions on the set of It Ends With Us.”

Swift’s lawyers, however, say that the singer has not yet agreed to be deposed, but that if she is deposed, she would make it happen the week of October 20. “My client did not agree to a deposition, but if she is forced into a deposition, we advised (after first hearing about the deposition just three days ago) that her schedule would accommodate the time required during the week of October 20 if the parties were able to work out their disputes,” wrote Baldridge in a court filing obtained by Billboard.

Lively’s legal team initially tried to exclude Swift from the case, but Baldoni’s lawyers sought and won court permission to obtain communication between the two of them. With regard to the showgirl in question, Baldoni’s team has also asked for an extension so that Swift can be deposed during the week of October 20 and 25 due to her “preexisting professional obligations”: presumably, releasing an album that is sure to make everyone behave completely normally. That this is all happening so close to Swift’s October 3 release of The Life of a Showgirl has got to be a point of annoyance, especially since she’s fought hard to maintain distance from this mess, but maybe she can turn a deposition trip to New York into an opportunity to go to eat at one of the many West Village restaurants she loves and/or host Saturday Night Live.

Late on September 12, Judge Lewis Liman denied the Baldoni team’s request to extend their discovery window. In his ruling, he wrote that “The Wayfarer Parties have not similarly demonstrated good cause for their requested extension,” according to Deadline. “Discovery has been ongoing in this case for approximately six months. The Wayfarer Parties previously requested Swift’s deposition in May 2025 before ultimately withdrawing the subpoena. They have offered no evidence that they have served a renewed subpoena on Swift,” he wrote. In short, Wayfarer’s poor planning is not the court’s emergency.
