Hamnet Wins the Big One

Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet closed out the night by winning the award for Best Drama. George Clooney and Don Cheadle presented, Steven Spielberg accepted, and Zhao gave a touching speech. A perfect mix of star power and earnestness to cap off the evening.

At Least Julia Roberts Gave Eva Victor Her Flowers

In a deliciously unrehearsed moment, Julia Roberts gave Sorry, Baby’s Eva Victor a much-deserved shout-out. Roberts and Victor were both nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, but ultimately lost out to Hamnet’s Jessie Buckley. “ … ‘Cause I lost a minute ago, me and Eva Victor, who is my hero,” she said while presenting another award. “Sorry, Baby, if you have not seen it? See it.” What she said.

Viva o Brasil!

Wagner Moura took home the Globe for Best Actor in a Drama, becoming the first Brazilian to ever do so. “The Secret Agent is a film about memory, or the lack of memory, and generational trauma,” Moura said. “I think that if trauma can be passed along generations, values can too. So this for the ones that are sticking with their values in difficult moments.” He capped off his speech with a shout-out to the beautiful nation of Brazil, whose people will be posting about this for many years to come.

Thank God for Wanda Sykes

Ricky Gervais would like to thank “God and the trans community” for his newly minted Golden Globe for Best Stand-Up Comedy Performance in Mortality. Oh wait, sorry, that was Wanda Sykes. Gervais was missing in action for his win Sunday night, which means the person presenting the award category gets to say a few words on their behalf. Sykes perfectly skewered Gervais who has repeatedly (and proudly) mocked trans people in his stand-up acts. She also wore a “Be Good” pin to honor the life of Renee Nicole Good, the Minneapolis woman shot and killed by ICE this week — and told Bill Mahr, to his face, that he’s doing too much. God bless Wanda.

The Heated Rivalry Boys Know Exactly What We Want
Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams of #HeatedRivalry present the Best Female Supporting Actor — TV award at the #GoldenGlobes, joking that they’re “so nervous,” with Williams reassuring Storrie: “Picture everyone in the audience… naked.” pic.twitter.com/7H6zNhwH13
— Variety (@Variety) January 12, 2026
Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie made their awards show debut, following a weird bit about them needing extra security from UFC fighters. Once the stage was clear of any threat, America’s favorite new stars came out and did their own (much more successful) bit about picturing everyone in the audience naked. “I don’t know if that works considering everyone’s seen us… you know,” Storrie said. Fair enough!

Timothée Chalamet wins the award for Best Actor- Musical or Comedy for his role in #MartySupreme at the #GoldenGlobes pic.twitter.com/SVLaP6uGAk
— The Hollywood Reporter (@THR) January 12, 2026
The actor, who got up at last year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards and proclaimed his intention to be “one of the greats,” delivered a much more lowkey speech for his Marty Supreme win in the Best Performance By a Male Actor In a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) category. “My dad instilled in me a spirit of gratitude growing up,” Chalamet said, “Always be grateful for what you have. It’s allowed me to leave the ceremony in the past empty handed with my head held high. I’d be lying if I said those moments didn’t make this moment that much sweeter.” Of course, Kylie Jenner got a little shout-out (after getting a quick little peck right when he won). “For my parents, for my partner, I love you so much,” Chalamet said before leaving the stage. Hopefully we can get High-Energy Timmy back for the Oscars.

Now that’s what I call a win-win. Byrne brought home her long-deserved first Golden Globe for her starring role in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, winning the category Best Actress in a Motion Picture: Musical or Comedy. “My brother’s my date, thanks George,” she said, nodding to the audience. She then thanked her mom and dad for buying a Paramount+ subscription so they could watch the ceremony from Sydney, and her longtime partner Bobby Cannavale, who was busy picking up the couple’s new bearded dragon from a reptile expo in “deep” New Jersey. I’m sure she’s looking forward to a nice reptilian cuddle when she gets home tonight. Congrats to the happy family.

If the Golden Globes must have a Best Podcast award, at least it went to Amy Poehler. Obviously, she gave the funniest speech of the night so far, calling out those fame-loving hacks at NPR. “I am big fans of all of you except NPR,” Poehler said of her fellow nominees, “Just a bunch of celebs phoning it in. Try harder.” In addition to bringing some energy to the night’s weirdest category, Poehler also got the honor of beating out her ex-husband Will Arnett for the prize. That has to feel a little good.

As he leapt up to accept the award for Best Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama for The Pitt, he planted a huge smooch on his wife Sarah Wells, and I’m not not jealous. “To all the healthcare workers in the world, thank you,” he said in his speech. “To my beautiful wife Sarah, happy birthday. Nikki Glaser’s Opening Monologue Crushed

In her second time around as Golden Globes host, Glaser held nothing back in her opening monologue. She took a shot at Bari Weiss’s CBS News, called Sean Penn a “sexy leather handbag,” and even got a Jeffrey Epstein quip in there. My favorite bit came when she made the one millionth joke about Leonardo DiCaprio dating women in their twenties, only to say, “I’m sorry I made that joke. It’s cheap. I tried not to, but like, we don’t know anything else about you, man.” He seemed to find that funny.

What’s in the Golden Globes Goody Bags?
A lot of stuff. Almost $1 million worth of stuff. But you have to be either a Golden Globe winner or presenter, according to a Golden Globes press release. (So no sneaking in to try to snag one.) What could cost that much, you ask? A three-night stay at Casa Bellamar in Cabo, a stay at the Conrad hotel in the Maldives, and a night in the Royal Suite at the Waldorf Astoria in Bangkok — all offerings in the bags. The goody bags also include Brad Pitt’s skincare routine; a buy-out of the cult gym Dogpound, a couples massage at the newly opened Guerlain spa, products from the Australian luxury lotion brand, Tronque, a yearlong membership to Maison Devereux’s Golden Circle, which includes gold shampoo and conditioner; as well as ultrarare bottles of French wine and $500 martini glasses. It’s the most expensive selection of gifts and experiences in Golden Globes history — and who better to receive these luxury freebies than millionare celebrities?!

Who’s Nominated for a Golden Globe?
One Battle After Another is nominated in the Musical or Comedy category, where it’s joined by Bugonia, No Other Choice, Blue Moon, Nouvelle Vague, and fellow awards-season heavyweight Marty Supreme. That makes for another Leo-Timmy showdown in the Best Actor race (Timothée Chalamet won last week at the Critics Choice Awards). In the Drama category, Sinners goes up against foreign faves Sentimental Value, The Secret Agent, and It Was Just an Accident as well as Hamnet and Frankenstein. When it comes to Lead Actress, both categories feature Moms Going Through It, with Jessie Buckley (Hamnet) and Jennifer Lawrence (Die My Love) repping in Drama, while Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You) holds it down in Comedy.
Over on the TV side, the Thailand-set season of The White Lotus leads the pack with six noms, closely followed by Adolescence with five. It’s looking a lot like the Emmys with The Pitt and Severance duking it out in the Best Drama category while Hacks and The Studio vie for the industry’s favorite comedy about the industry.
