Over the weekend, Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau were photographed making out on her yacht. She was in a bathing suit, he was wearing jeans and no shirt, and the whole thing seemed very romantic. This reunion was a bit shocking, considering that the pair’s summer fling had reportedly “cooled down” after their fun and flirty day together in Montreal back in July. Well, post-yacht outing, things are apparently heating up again, and a source told People that the pop star and the former prime minister of Canada are actually really into each other.
An anonymous Canadian insider told the tabloid that Perry and Trudeau are “quite taken with each other” and that “in addition to the attraction, they are both smart and love to talk about serious issues.” Uh-huh. Why can’t two people just be hot for each other anymore? Why am I being asked to imagine Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau discussing the rise of fascism in between yacht smooches?
“Justin thinks she is terrific,” the source continued. “It has had time to develop on a friend and intellectual level as well as supersized attraction. The romance has merit.” If you ask me, the source doth protest too much. I wasn’t really doubting the merit of their romance before, but now I’m wondering. Certainly, their “supersized attraction” is real, but is this really going to blossom into a full-on relationship? They both seem busy, and I can’t really imagine Perry moving to Canada.

The source has an answer for that, though. “They have stayed in touch since the middle of summer but haven’t been able to spend that much time together, due mainly to her schedule,” they said. “Justin is also busy and both have family obligations. They have interests in common. Both are taking dating as it comes. But they are definitely into each other — and have been.” The more I’m asked to believe in the electric mental connection these two share, the more certain I am that they are just having a fun little fling. And you know what? Good for them!
It seems like both Perry and Trudeau are having fun with their little situationship, which is ultimately cool and sexy. I don’t need to be told they are really incorporating politics into their pillow talk or that they both share a passion for Carl Sagan. I’ll believe it when Perry suddenly has strong opinions about the Toronto Maple Leafs and Trudeau knows all the words to “Woman’s World.”
