Before Benson Boone’s Saturday Night Live debut, there was one question on everyone’s mind: is that motherfucker gonna do a flip again? Boone is a singer who 1) wears jumpsuits, and 2) does little flippies. He did a flip at the Grammys, he flipped for Brian May at Coachella this year, and dagnabbit! He was gonna flip on SNL. But when, and how many times? Would there be a musical guest-centered sketch where he teaches kids gymnastics? Would he flip off the stage in the middle of goodnights then make cryptic remarks on Instagram like “flip me back to god’s country“? Would he zag when we’re all expecting a zig, and instead do some other agility skill check like aerial silks or some shit?
Turns out Boone did exactly what we were expecting, and no more. He did one (1) flip during his first musical performance, tumbling over host Quinta Brunson, who didn’t not look like she feared for her life. If you count the promos from earlier in the week, Boone did 2 flips, and Sarah Sherman did one. Which killed her, unforch. Leave it to the pros.
