Flea pleads that you listen to “A Plea.” In a striking, André 3000–esque pivot from his work in Red Hot Chili Peppers, the bassist has unveiled his first solo song from an upcoming jazz album due out in 2026. But unlike with André, we have bars! Playing both bass and trumpet — the instrument Flea considers his original love — as well as taking on vocal duties, he and eight other musicians spend the first half of the song in Blue Note heaven before he pivots to a unifying message about how the world needs to find its Zen. The music video, too, contains an inspired amount of Flea-chi for your pleasure. “I don’t care about your fucking politics / I don’t wanna hear about your politics,” he sings in one stanza. “Well, he said boo / She said hooray.” In a separate statement, Flea says he doesn’t care about “the act of politics” and instead yearns for a “transcendent place above it where there’s discourse to be had that can actually help humanity.” His bassline is certainly a start.
