Actually, this is a levelheaded brother. Dee Snider has quit Twisted Sister ahead of the band’s 50th-anniversary tour, a decision he says was fueled by health issues and not wanting to perform at a level he isn’t proud of for fans. “I don’t know of any other way to rock,” he said in a statement. “The idea of slowing down is unacceptable to me. I’d rather walk away than be a shadow of my former self.” Pulling a quote from Magnum Force, the front man added, “A man’s got to know his limitations.” Snider, who is 70 years old, suffers from degenerative arthritis and underwent several surgeries in recent years — as a result he’s only been able to perform “a few songs at a time in pain” at concerts. “Adding insult to injury, he has recently found out the level of intensity he has dedicated to his life’s work has taken its toll on his heart as well,” Twisted Sister’s statement read. “He can no longer push the boundaries of rock-and-roll fury like he has done for decades.” The band’s future will be determined in the upcoming weeks, and the anniversary tour has been canceled. In a similar rocker vein, Keith Richards, now an octogenarian, recently vetoed a Rolling Stones stadium tour due to the rigors of being on the road for an extended period of time. Taking it? No, they’re not going to do that anymore.
