Taylor Swift is doing the most Taylor Swift thing imaginable: making the press rounds on an ex-boyfriend’s stomping grounds. On Friday, she appeared on no fewer than four U.K.-based radio shows to promote her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, which came out last night and has been met with mixed reviews. But the real main character of the press tour is the fat rock on her finger. Or maybe we should call it a “hard rock,” as she does on the track “Wood”?

🚨| Taylor Swift on her engagement ring:
“I had shown him a video of her stuff I just thought her stuff was so cool (..) a year and a half ago— when I saw that I was like, ‘I know who made that’ you listen to me! I didnt know what I’d want but he did”.

This is what Taylor Swift does best. Throughout every era, she has adopted archetypes and worn them as public personae: the wronged country girl, the old-money New England socialite, the twee hipster, the London scholar, the misunderstood mistress, the old-money New England socialite part two. Now, she’s simply taking on a new role: girl who can’t help but remind everyone she’s engaged every chance she gets.
