It has been almost a week since the Grammys, and old white guys are still arguing about Billie Eilish, who is probably off chilling somewhere with her award and the comfort of having been one of the few people that night to say something political at all. Shark Tank and Marty Supreme vampire Kevin O’Leary took umbrage at the singer’s statements at the awards ceremony, venting on Fox News that “the first lesson for celebrities, whether you are a music star or film star, is shut your mouth and just entertain.” Eilish’s brother and frequent collaborator, Finneas, came to her defense on February 7, posting on Threads that he is “seeing a lot of very powerful old white men outraged about what my 24 year old sister said during her acceptance speech. We can literally see your names in the Epstein files.” (O’Leary has not popped up in this specific set of files, though he has said that the scandal is not something Americans actually care about.) Mark Ruffalo joined the rumble a few hours after Finneas posted, also posting to Threads that O’Leary should “STFU.” “You will go on any show and talk shit about any number of things and smugly expect us to listen to you, but you will dig into a real artist that dwarfs anything you dream of doing for actually saying something that resonates with 100’s of millions of people the world over. It’s astounding the fantasy double standard Kevin O’Leary lives in. You played yourself well in Marty Supreme,” Ruffalo wrote. Damn, he kinda got O’Leary’s vampire ass. Well, if we’ve learned anything here, it’s that Threads is proving to be fertile posting ground on which celebrities can roast one another.
