The hiring freese has been lifted. Two months after firing their latest drummer, Josh Freese, to usher in “a different direction,” Foo Fighters have returned with a new song and a not-so-new drummer. Don’t be a pretender when we tell you: Dave Grohl is back behind the kit and reliving his Nirvana years. Grohl had previously filled the drum void for the Foos after the death of Taylor Hawkins, pulling double duty on drums and guitar in the studio for the band’s 2023 album, But Here We Are. “Today’s Song,” a scorcher that has Grohl “screaming for change,” signifies their first original material since the album’s release — as well as a frenzied news cycle covering Grohl fathering a child outside of his marriage. “Over the years, we’ve had moments of unbridled joy and moments of devastating heartbreak. Moments of beautiful victory and moments of painful defeat,” he said in a statement. “We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can’t go it alone.” Tomorrow’s tune for the Foos? A series of live shows in Asia and Mexico in the fall. Unless Grohl is able to achieve his final form as a Machamp, let’s wait and see who will be recruited for the kit then.
