A still from the campaign ad.
Earlier this month, New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani made an unexpected cameo during an episode of The Golden Bachelor, when he asked New Yorkers to accept his rose in a Bachelor-themed ad. Now, he’s courting another crucial reality-TV fandom. On Wednesday night, his campaign ran an ad during Survivor, which showed a bunch of former contestants voting Andrew Cuomo off the island.
“Andrew, New Yorkers want a mayor who will make groceries and child care affordable — not sell us out to their billionaire donors,” Teeny Chirichillo, who appeared on the show’s 47th season, says in the beginning of the ad. Brandon Donlon, Yam Yam Arocho, Katurah Topps, Jacob Derwin, Stephanie Berger, and Natalie Anderson also make appearances, calling for “a mayor that will make buses fast and free” and “not defund the MTA.”

Mamdani appears at the end of the ad to extinguish a torch with a coconut shell in classic Survivor fashion, saying, “We’re going to build a city where no one has to struggle just to survive.” Then, in one final cameo, Josh Canfield pops up, holding up his ballot to vote out Cuomo. “Didn’t we already vote you out?” he asks. Sounds like the tribe has spoken.
