That’s what people said while watching the NFL AFC Championship game Sunday night. (Patriots beat Broncos and are going to Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl, btw.) During the commercials, a new spot for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey premiered, and it went sicko mode. The trailer focused on Telemachus (Tom Holland) on his journey to learn more about his dad, Odyssesus (Matt Damon). And in walks Travis Scott as the bard of Menelaus (Jon Bernthal). It’s somewhat fitting of a casting, as poems like Homer’s Odyssey were sung-rapped back in the day.
Nolan has been a Travis Scott fan since at least Tenet. Scott recorded a song for the soundtrack, and helped shape the film’s soundtrack with Ludwig Göransson. “His voice became the final piece of a yearlong puzzle,” Nolan told GQ in 2020. But if you want to see Scott’s take on Homer, you’ll have to wait. Pirated copies of the TV trailer are getting DCMA’d faster than — spoiler warning for a 3 millennia-ish old book — Odysseus can slay Penelope’s suitors. And that’s fast.
