This Could Work

by thenowvibe_admin

On July 29, TMZ reported an exclusive scoop that the singer behind Eddington’s “Firework” needle drop, Katy Perry, and former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau had dinner together at Le Violon in Montreal the previous night. The two allegedly had cocktails and several dishes, “including one with lobster.” Ooh la la! Talk about a dark horse. For those keeping score at home, Perry and longtime partner Orlando Bloom split earlier this summer. Since then, he’s attended Jeff Bezos’s wedding to Perry’s space bestie, Lauren Sánchez, while Perry keeps almost dying during her Lifetimes Tour. Trudeau and his wife, Sophie, separated in late 2023 after 18 years of marriage. One shared lobster does not make a relationship official, but it does have us thinking about the potential for this profoundly unexpected pairing.

There’s a lot that Perry and Trudeau could have bonded over. For one, they’re both parents. They also both have brown hair. That’s two big things right there. Trudeau seems to have a general appreciation for music: His eldest son, Xavier, is a burgeoning rapper. The former prime minister also once put out a playlist on Spotify titled “PM Mix” (succinct) that does not include any Perry songs, but hey, it’s not too late. Trudeau also has a party trick where he falls down the stairs, which may be the kind of thing Perry can relate to given her penchant for, uh, comedy. They were also both much more loved figures in the 2010s, icons of a Democratic Establishment that’s now not so hot anymore. That’s something they can maybe trauma-bond over. The sky is the limit for these guys: Maybe Lauren Sánchez could get Justin Trudeau into space, maybe Perry could record an album with some Québécois. Talk about a rêve d’adolescent!

It’s not easy to keep a steady relationship going amid a world tour — Justin Timberlake can vouch for that — so Perry and Trudeau may be on a limited timeline. Perry will be in Canada for the rest of this week (minus one quick stop down in Detroit) and then the Lifetimes Tour continues back in the States before she goes to South America in September. So maybe this only lasts the week before their lives pull them in different directions — him to the frigid north, her to sunny Malibu. What’s Québécois for “The One That Got Away”?
