There’s one thing a front-runner should do and that’s run in the front, which is exactly what’s happening to Jessie Buckley this awards season. This year’s unstoppable force nabbed the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama for playing the weepy Mrs. Shakespeare following her big win at the Critics Choice Awards last weekend. In her CCA speech, she discussed cave paintings and told her co-star Paul Mescal that she could “drink him like water” (if nothing else, she should definitely win an award for that phrase). Tonight, she went in a more culinary direction thanking Hamnet’s grip Tomek who brought his cast-iron pot from Poland and made an amazing soup. Go off, soup!
She was also sure to mention that her husband has been loving the cocktails and the canapés, which do seem like a great reason to keep going to these awards shows. Her biggest threat in the awards season thus far is Best Actress in a Comedy winner Rose Byrne, but, even so, expect to see Buckley up onstage a lot more this season. Here’s hoping her speeches just get weirder and weirder and that she keeps making Paul Mescal cry just a little bit more each time.
