Another brick has been laid in One Battle After Another’s impenetrable fortress this awards season. Tonight, the film won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, capping off a stellar week for its awards run. The film won four total awawrds, also taking Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture, for Teyana Taylor. If it wasn’t already the frontrunner for Best Picture at the Oscars, it would be now.
“This has been one of the most incredible filmmaking experiences, once in a lifetime,” producer Sara Murphy said when accepting the award. “Due largely in part to the person we share this award with, the late Adam Somner, who we miss every day. I wanna thank Mike, Pam, and David for championing this film from the beginning, and so many original films this year. What a feast for us all.”

This is yet another showcase for OBAA’s dominance this season. The film already broke the record for most Actor Award (née SAG Award) nominations of all time earlier this week, with seven. It also won Best Picture at the Critics Choice Awards and this week scored nominations with the Producers Guild and the Directors Guild. Nearly every time this film could win or be nominated for a “Best Film” prize this season, it’s scored. Next up? Oscar-nominations voting begins tomorrow, January 12, and runs through Friday, ahead of the announcement on January 22. Then, we’ll see just how many battles this warrior can win.
