Alligator bites never heal, but at least stan-Twitter bites aren’t real. “God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas,” Doechii captioned a video of her looking dejected set to the Commodores’ “Easy” in a May 7 response to her Met Gala backlash. Doechii was criticized for the way that she spoke to her assistants, demanding “I need more fucking umbrellas” while leaving her hotel to get to the Met Gala on May 5 unseen in the middle of pouring rain. “All jokes aside I’m so so so proud of my glam team and the LV team for an incredible night,” she wrote on her Instagram Story as well. “We’ve been dreaming about this Met for a long time and the theme this year is in such alignment with who I am what I stand for. It’s nothing but God that this year was our debut.” On TikTok, she added that “this was such an overstimulating night but I wouldn’t trade it for the world! This was the night we all dreamed of and my team killed it (umbrellas aside).”

In the video posted by @theviketwins on TikTok, Doechii is heard demanding the umbrellas from behind a series of modesty panels, then has her team scooch the modesty panels through the lobby so she can’t be seen before heading into the rainy, paparazzi-covered streets. “why is doechii talking to her team like this??” one tweet with over 145k likes said. “I would’ve threw an umbrella AT HER so fast….” Doechii’s hairstylist for the night, @slayedbymatthew, responded to the tweet directly on May 6. “Not that deep,” he wrote. “A Kiki was had on the bus right after. Just a girl being a girl for 30 secs.” Additionally, one of her assistants, Zoe “ZAZ” Gofman, called working on Doechii’s Met Gala outfit “an honor” on Instagram. To paraphrase Beyoncé: You know you that swamp bitch when you cause all this conversation.
