Sorry to Kamala Harris, but Rachel Zegler thinks a different leader was more brat. Speaking to Rolling Stone UK, Zegler said Charli XCX was a big part of her pre-Evita prep playlist. “Charli XCX‘s Brat was prominent in my Peron Playlist and was informative for what the Eva we were creating would be listening to today,” she said. To Zegler, the Jamie Lloyd staging was particularly bratty: “My Eva – dancing around in a bra and underwear – felt very Brat. Like in ‘Von Dutch’, she knows that you’re obsessed with her.”
It’s always nice when someone gets that Brat was about more than just rah-rah party vibes. “The core of the album is introspection,” Zegler said, “considering who the artist is underneath and how they relate to the rest of the world outside. It’s a deep exploration of what it means to be a woman in the public eye.” And who wielded their public image with more ferocity than Eva Peron? Other songs on Zegler’s rotation included The Last Dinner Party, Marina, Sabrina Carpenter “Paparazzi” by Lady Gaga, and Charli’s protege Addison Rae. When you think about it, the parallels between “Fame Is a Gun” and “Buenos Aires” are staggering.
