Pigs are flying, hell has frozen over, and Prince Harry is reuniting with King Charles. People reported that Harry was seen arriving at Clarence House, the king’s London residence, at around 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Harry left around 55 minutes later, after what Buckingham Palace called a “private tea” between father and son. This was their first meeting in 19 months.
Harry is in the U.K. by himself this week for some charity appearances. On Monday, he visited Queen Elizabeth’s burial site on the anniversary of her death. That evening, he made an appearance at the WellChild Awards, and since then he has visited with charity groups in Nottingham and made a trip to Imperial College London’s Centre for Blast Injury Studies. Thankfully, he was able to squeeze Charles in.
Things have been tense between Harry and his father ever since the Duke of Sussex opted to stop being a working royal and moved to California. In 2021, during Harry and Meghan Markle’s Oprah Winfrey interview heard round the world, Meghan revealed that a member of the royal family had “concerns” about the skin color of her and Harry’s son. Some Dutch publishing drama later suggested Charles was the person who made the comment.
Since pivoting to a California surfer-dude lifestyle, Harry has not seen his father much at all. He attended Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022 and his father’s coronation in 2023, but tabloids claimed he was iced out at the funeral and left the coronation in a hurry. In 2024, after Charles revealed his cancer diagnosis, Harry flew to the U.K. to visit his father, but the king reportedly left London 45 minutes after his son arrived. This May, Harry gave an interview to the BBC in which he said he had “forgiven” his family. According to him, their long-standing beef is rooted in Harry’s request for taxpayer-funded security when he’s in the U.K.

“I would love reconciliation with my family,” Harry said. “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. But it would be nice to reconcile.”
In July, aides for Harry and Charles apparently met up in London for what the Daily Mail called a “secret peace summit.” “There’s a long road ahead, but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years,” a source told the tabloid.
While things appear to be warming up between Harry and Charles, the same cannot be said of Harry and Prince William. According to British outlet GB News, William’s schedule is packed with royal engagements, precluding any possibility of a reunion for the brothers. Still, it’s heartening to see that some progress is being made in the family. As you might have clocked, Harry’s visit today was a full ten minutes longer than his visit in 2024. Next year they might even hang out for a full hour.
