Bradley Cooper, probably inspired by the first American stops on fellow pop diva Lady Gaga’s Mayhem Ball tour, will have a Vegas residency of his own. Or possibly a Monte Carlo residency. Regardless, something to do with casinos. Cooper is in talks to star opposite Margot Robbie in her long-anticipated Ocean’s Eleven prequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Lee Isaac Chung, who directed last summer’s Twisters and the 2020 awards favorite Minari, is set to direct the prequel film.
If all of this sounds a little familiar but slightly off, that’s because when a Robbie-led Ocean’s prequel was announced back in 2022, Austin Powers director Jay Roach was at the helm. In 2023, it was reported that Robbie’s Barbie co-star Ryan Gosling would play the lead role opposite her. Back then, word was that the film was set in Monte Carlo in 1962, right around the time of the original Rat Pack Ocean’s Eleven, but no details have been revealed about this iteration of the project.

We don’t even know the title. And that raises a lot of questions, because Ocean’s movie-naming conventions are a tricky thing. Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen, and 8 are taken, in that order, mind you. An extension of the Brad Pitt and George Clooney trilogy, Ocean’s Fourteen, is in development. What’s a prequel to do? Subtract one and call itself “Ocean’s 10”? Go way back to “Ocean’s 1.0”? “Ocean’s Zero”? Take the “s” away for effect and call it, simply, “Ocean”? We probably won’t get a clean answer out of anyone until Coop gets through the press tour for his stand-up comedy movie, Is This Thing On?, this December.
