Jonathan Bailey Has No Issue with Kissing Scarlett Johansson

Lately, Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson have been bringing a soupçon of energy to the Jurassic World Rebirth red carpets by greeting each other with a big smooch. This is the kind of fun and flirty energy that summer requires. If a gay man can’t greet his female friend–slash–co-worker with a kiss on the lips in front of dozens of cameras, what is the point? What are we doing here? It’s Pride Month! And yet, some people seem confused by this friendly meeting of lips.

Thankfully, Bailey can help clarify. On Monday, at the movie’s New York premiere, he was asked about his kisses with Johansson and gave a perfect answer. “I believe in being able to show love in all different ways,” the Wicked actor told Entertainment Tonight. “And if you can’t kiss your friends … life’s too short not to.”

The best part about this whole thing is that he’s not even the one initiating the kisses. Every time, she’s the one who pulls him in. And who could blame her? If you were close with Bailey, I’m sure you’d be trying to kiss him at every opportunity, too. Even (especially?) if your husband were just standing off to the side, looking on politely.

If no one wants to make erotic thrillers or rom-coms with a lick of chemistry, I guess I will settle for co-stars sharing a platonic kiss in public. That being said, I want to see a lot more of it. Pedro Pascal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach locking lips on the Fantastic Four carpet! Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis sharing a peck for Freakier Friday! Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande … well, actually, that might turn into a fan-fiction nightmare for them, so they’re exempt. They should each plant a fat one on Bailey during the Wicked: For Good press tour instead. More kissing for everyone!
