In the week since Bad Bunny was announced as the 2026 Super Bowl halftime performer, conservatives have been fully crashing out over the prospect of an artist who’s spoken out against Trump and ICE taking the stage during the year’s biggest football game. Trump claims to have “never heard of” Benito, whom he called “Bad Bunny rabbit,” while Kristi Noem threatened that ICE would be “all over” the game, and only “law-abiding Americans who love this country” should show up. Other people have floated MAGA-friendly performers with much smaller fan bases to take Bad Bunny’s spot, like Speaker Mike Johnson, who argued that the NFL should actually tap country singer Lee Greenwood — a man with less than 500,000 monthly Spotify listeners who hasn’t had a hit since “God Bless the USA” in 1984. Sure, Mike!
So, what has Benito — who, for the record, was the third-most-streamed artist in the world last year — been up to amid all this loser behavior? Having a heck of a lot of fun and basically paying it no mind. On Tuesday night, he showed up to a Yankees game in New York, where a foul ball pretty much landed right in his lap. In a video clip posted by the MLB, he was seen shielding his head from getting hit by the ball. Moments later, it was in his hands, and he could be seen waving it around victoriously with a thousand-watt smile on his face.

This clear indicator of good karma came days after Bad Bunny hosted the season premiere of SNL, where he celebrated his Super Bowl announcement and defiantly mocked the conservative response. “You might not know this, but I’m doing the Super Bowl halftime show and I’m very happy,” he said in his opening monologue. “I think everyone is happy about it, even Fox News.” The camera then turned to a supercut of Fox News hosts strung together to say, “Bad Bunny is my favorite musician, and he should be the next president.”
From their lips to God’s ears. What a week to be Benito.
