Hayley Williams Is Not Making It Easy on Her Fans

by thenowvibe_admin

Hayley Williams draws inspiration from many places: Joker, Debbie Harry, Björk, the troll under the bridge asking you to answer his riddles three. Williams released her newest collection of music on July 28. It includes 17 songs, all of which are only available on hayleywilliams.net, and even then are behind an access code. An access code was sent out to the people who bought the most recent drop from Williams’s hair-care company, Good Dye Young. “If you don’t have an email with a code, maybe ask a friend for theirs,” the website says. The latest drop is a limited-edition semipermanent marigold-yellow dye called “Ego.”

Once a listener gets a code and finds themself behind the wall, the webpage is an aughts-styled collection of 17 mp3 files. The background shows a repeated marigold photo of Williams’s dog Alf. The seemingly randomly strewn titles include “Dream Girl in Shibuya,” “Discovery Channel,” and “Brotherly Hate.” Williams played the song “Mirtazapine,” which is included on the website, at Newport Folk Festival with Bleachers on July 26. The website also includes a “misc” file with a photo of a T-shirt reading “Hayley Williams Is My Favorite Band,” a picture of a lyric book, a concert clip from Phoenix, and an audio file with a child saying, “I’m sorry that you’re going through something hard.” And that hard thing just might be accessing this new music.
