If it’s a crime to be stunning, she’s guilty, your honor! Surrounded by supermodels like Alex Consani, Amelia Gray, and Irina Shayk, Doja Cat is the star of her own “Gorgeous” makeup ad for her latest music video, fresh off the release of Vie. ” Are your eyes even open?/It ain’t ever really our fault,” Doja sings as she channels her inner cover girl. “We make a killing being so beautiful/It’s a crime to be gorgeous.” She, of course, includes one special star who gave her her “gorgeous” looks, her mother. “This song is about loving yourself,” Doja teased ahead of the album’s release. And what better way to do that than to get dolled up and be surrounded by models? That’s true self-care.
Doja Cat wants everyone to know she’s a rapper who just happens to be really, really good at making pop music. For Vie, she’s showing a softer side to herself and those who get into relationships with her. “Because I’m talking about not only my own sexuality, but his,” she tells the New York Times ahead of the album’s release, fulfilling her promise for a more romantic album. Doja sings about leaving a “Lipstain” on her muse in French or getting a key to her lover’s “flat” in “Acts of Service.” Besides the new exploration of fragility, Vie is also a return to form, aka good ol’ fashioned pop music. She told CBS Sunday Mornings, “I feel like I’m in a place where I want to do what I know.”
